The Foundation for Social Transformation: enabling north east india (FST) is a not for profit, feminist, gender just, apolitical, indigenous philanthropic organization, conceived, led and managed by people from the region to support progressive grassroots initiatives in the North East India. Founded in 2005, FST works towards supporting community led solutions that contribute towards creating a just, peaceful and equal society. As an indigenous philanthropic organisation FST focuses on transforming the lives of vulnerable people by creating a cadre of change agents in marginalised rural and urban communities and established a culture of community giving for social justice and built a strong network of grassroots groups in NE India.

FST has four strategic issues - a. Rural and Informal Economy, b. Gender and Patriarchy, c. Protection of Environment and Natural Resources, d. Marginalised groups. Youth, Women and Marginalised Groups are the three project participants in all the interventions of FST.

Foundation for Social Transformation is looking for a Program Associate for our Young Girls’ Access to Education project..

Role Purpose :

FST has been implementing a project on young girls’ access to education. We plan to reduce the gender and social normsthat prevents girls in pursuing education. The programme supports the young girls’ rights in pursuing higher education, address the issue of gender based violence at home and community setting, health and hygiene issues, and sensitising the boys to become better brother and friend. We also plan to advocate the rights of girls at district and state level.

We are looking for a dynamic and motivated person to provide technical leadership, management and will be fully responsible for timely and efficient implementation of all the project activities. The person will be responsible for the delivery of project results in the context of time, budget, quality, scope, risk and in accordance with the values and behaviours, including gender transformative outcomes and safeguarding of all children.

Programme Management:
• Ensure that the project delivers evidence based practices to improve equity and access to education for girls from feminist perspectives.
• Define and regularly updates project work plans to reflect a changing environment.
• Understands the project management cycle and utilizes tools (including detailed implementation plans) effectively to implement and achieve project results, and comply with donor requirements, government, and partnership agreements.
• Achieves project results, and monitors appropriate benchmarks, targets and performance indicators.
• Coordinates technical inputs on education, WASH, child protection in emergency and gender to support a high quality of implementation ensuring that programmatic strategies are of high quality, based on best practices and in line with donor standards.
• Articulates changes in project activities (if any) clearly and produce clear documents justifying changes, analysis of change impact, and budget impact.
• Systematically reviews risks and challenges to quality implementation and compliance and develop clear and timely mitigation strategies including resources required.
• Develops and implements a clear plan to strengthen programme quality and compliance in the project delivery.
• Produce well-documented, accurate, and quality narrative/financial reports in line with donor reporting requirements.
• Creates an efficient knowledge management system/approach that helps learning, sharing, scaling up, and innovation.
Influencing and Visibility
• Represents FST at different forums influencing the agenda of girls rights to education.
• Establish working relationship with Right to Education network in the country.
• Conduct budgetary and policy level analysis on girls access to education aspects and organise the different campaigns.
• Supports with technical documentation of evidence from the project and produce stories of change when required.
• Ensures that the project is fully aligned with the SDG
Communication and Working Relationships
• Builds strong relationships with various partners especially the district local government, target communities, other partners, and government stakeholders
• Engages and effectively represent FST in strategic partnerships with relevant NGOs to maximize use of our resources
• Effectively networks with donors, and other partners implementing similar programs in project locations.
• Develops appropriate internal and external working relationships (and partnerships) to support quality project delivery and compliance.
Expertise, skills and knowledge
• Master in development studies or social work
• At least 3 years of progressively professional work experience in design, implementation and evaluation of education programmes.
• Must have deep understanding of feminist perspectives; issues of social barriers that prevent girls in accessing education.
• Demonstrated experience in managing, mentoring and coaching staff.
• Conversant with government education programmes
• Demonstrated skills and experience in report writing, donor compliance and budget management.
• Ability to Identify and synthesis best practices and lessons learned to promote knowledge management and sustainability.
• Willing to travel and ability to work in hard to reach hard to stay areas and familiar with programming for vulnerable children especially young girls and boys.
• Promotes high performance among project staff and provides vision and direction.
• Establishes effective partnerships with external stakeholders
