Professional Experience:
I am an independent consultant with specialist research and evaluation in the field of gender, human rights and development. I have over 10 years of experience in research and teaching, working across India and the UK. I have worked on projects relating to the Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination Against Women (CEDAW), and on wider themes related to gender, inequality and social inclusion. My work has included research projects on domestic workers; on Muslim women’s human rights; on caste, gender and political participation in India; and on ICT in the context of gender and conflict. I have also written and presented academic papers on the caste and gender dimensions of domestic work in India, and have taught at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels on issues such as gender and poverty, gender and development, trafficking of women, sex work, violence against women, women and family relations, reproductive autonomy, equal pay and maternity benefits. I have also served as a peer reviewer on topics relating to gender justice for various international journals, and collected editions. More recently, I have developed a feminist counselling curriculum for an alternative livelihoods community college in Bangalore (which has been accredited by TISS, Mumbai), and have been a co-evaluator on an evaluation of a mid-term project of an NGO in Bangalore.
