I am a medical doctor with specialization in Pathology and formal training in healthcare management.
My core objective is to provide quality, accessible and affordable healthcare services to the masses. To achieve this target, I have been working hard to gain enough and relevant experience in the areas of public health and diagnostics.
I have been working as Director and Chief Executive of a start-up, not-for-profit organisation for the past one year; the organisation aims to provide accessible, affordable and high-quality medical diagnostic services to the urban poor through a chain of collection centres located within the slums and resettlement colonies. I conceptualized the vision and mission of the organisation and carried out primary research to draw out a framework aligned with the objectives of the not-for-profit. I am heading the roll out and operations of the centres and the central laboratory. I am at the forefront for liaising with government, corporates etc. for fundraising and with NGOs, doctors, local leaders etc. for community outreach
In my previous role with an international not-for-profit organisation, I led the Delhi team to support the state government in planning and implementing one of the largest public health programs in the state, which involved deworming 3.7 million children of all government schools (Delhi government, MCD, NDMC, Delhi Cantonment Board) and Anganwadis, on a dedicated Deworming day. Key support areas were advocacy; planning and budgeting; documentation; technical support in training, IEC, monitoring and evaluation, drug quality control, supply chain, data management; and overall coordination of the program.
Preceding the deworming intervention, we had carried out a worm prevalence survey, one of the largest in an urban setting, in support with the state government and WHO. Here, I was able to use my expertise in diagnostics and managerial skills, to lead the team in setting up a novel centralised model for conducting prevalence surveys. This model has provided the framework for replication in other states.
Besides leading the mass deworming program in Delhi, I also supported the Bihar team in rolling out mass deworming program in the entire state, reaching out to 17 million children.
Along with this, I was involved in auditing of National Filaria Control program in Bihar.
Prior to this, I headed the operations of one of the biggest diagnostic laboratories in Dehradun for over 4 years with a stint in transfusion medicine. My focus areas during this period were quality assurance, trainings for laboratory staff, inventory control, equipment procurement besides core pathology practice.
My keen interest in researching on the gaps in the Indian public health system inspired me to carry out studies on – ‘Training effectiveness and competency profiling of ASHA workers in the state of Uttarakhand’ and ‘Need assessment of diagnostics in rural areas around Delhi’, during my management t
