Professional Experience:
Lakshmi Kaul is the former Head and Representative – UK, Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) based in London. An experience of nearly two decades in business development, market facilitation, trade, policy & change making, political campaigns, education, micro-finance, organisational development, across industry, UN systems, charity and education sectors; her experience ranges from policy formulation, relationship building, communications, public relations, research, strategy, partnership development to creating community networks and building focussed campaigns promoting the interest of India in the UK and vice versa.
Lakshmi’s work in entrepreneurship, adult education and school improvement led her to work on a multi-partner and multi-location school improvement programme of Aga Khan Foundation. Key areas of interest remain work force development, skilling, adult & continuing education, informal economy, micro enterprise and decentralised governance along with socio economic reforms extending into a consolidated approach to ESG to enable organisational development, resilience and aspires to quantify compassion quotient into ESG matrices and measurement tools.
Lakshmi has worked across the spectrum of Industry, United Nations, Non Profit sector in India and UK, policy and government affairs in the India-UK corridor as well as managed a historic heritage project documenting India’s contribution during the World War 1 as part of the centenary commemoration of The Great War.
In her role as the political aide to a UK Member of Parliament, she has been instrumental in establishing a mechanism of focussed briefing for UK parliamentarians from the Indian government as well as launched various platforms for community to engage with their local MPs in addition to supporting the various All Party Parliamentary Groups including the Indian Traditional Sciences, British Hindus, India, Nepal, Bangladesh and Sri Lanka. She currently is the Secretariat of the newly formed All Party Parliamentary Group on India (Trade and Investment) on behalf of the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII).
She has mentored a number of women trying to get back to work or wanting to set up entrepreneurial ventures. In 2015 she curated a start ups and small business summit in London for over 300 Indian start up entrepreneurs providing them guidance and information on setting up a business in the UK.
Lakshmi in her role as the Head & Representative – UK for the Confederation of Indian Industry views the India UK corridor with optimism and looks to both countries including their multi-lateral and multi-disciplinary, cross sector and regional strengths. Lakshmi is a Champion of Regional India partnerships for the UK and represents CII on the Board of the Manchester India Partnership (MIP) and on the Executive Board of the West Midlands India Partnership (WMIP) Board. To further the regional India partnerships, she works closely with the other regions including Scotland, Wales, Northern Ireland and also the Northern Powerhouse. She is also on the Board of Commonwealth Enterprise and Investment Council (CWEIC) and works closely with the various European and Commonwealth countries, furthering the scope of business engagement for Indian businesses.
She actively contributes to newspapers, journals and news publications including The Sunday Guardian, Asian Voice, Asian Affairs, Asian Lite, India Affairs and writes a weekly column, “Talking Point” for India Inc’s iGlobal news magazine. Lakshmi is an active campaigner for Diversity & Inclusion, Pluralism, Handloom, Handicrafts and is a champion of the Cottage Industry of India, supporting thousands of artisans across villages in India.
