Professional Experience:
Currently I am working as a Young Professional in the capacity of District Manger (Livelihoods) in Rajasthan Grameen Aajeevika Vikas Parishad, Jaipur. My work entails designing, implementing, monitoring and evaluating various government schemes and projects targeted at empowering socially and economically disadvantaged sections of society with a special emphasis on developing livelihood opportunities for the rural populous through the development of special projects.
In Udaipur district, there are 4645 Self Help Groups out of which I am monitoring livelihood activities for more than 12000 Households. Last year, a major intervention was Custard apple value chain addition. I along with 30 SHG women initiated value this intervention in a remote cluster of Kherwara block in Udaipur district. The wildly grown custard apples were earlier sold to traders at very cheap price and since it is a perishable produce, the community too had very less bargaining power.
Other major roles of mine include; capacity building and institution building, documentation of best practices. Linking of Self Help Groups to financial institutions, Close monitoring of Four Farmer Producer Companies and five Custom Hiring centres, Organization of trainings and awareness camps, Project completion report writing, Drafting of business plan, Organization of nutrition related camps for women and child, Monitoring of a ginger-turmeric plant established by SHG women.
Such initiatives have surely created a sense of awareness among people. Some of the tangible changed has been – Elimination of middlemen, Generation of livelihood, Effective usage of natural resources, capacity building of women entrepreneurs, Introduction of improved agricultural techniques for better yield and as well as awareness regarding health of women and child.
I have chosen this work because I believe my professional skills coupled with the understanding of the structure of the society makes me suitable for this job. My desire and expertise to work with the community to bring about not only qualitative but quantitative changes through bottoms up approach is provided by the organization I work for.
Education:
I have graduated in History from Miranda House, University of Delhi and completed my post graduation in Social work from Tata Institute of Social Sciences, Mumbai. I have interned with National Campaign for Dalit Human Rights (Delhi), Manaviya Hakka Abhiyan Mission (Maharashtra), Assam State Archives, (Guwahati), Cheetah camp Urban Health Centre (Mumbai),Grameen Sahara (Assam).
