Insight into some impactful CSR projects at Philips India as Head CSR
Healthcare - Created programs to provide access to healthcare for women and children, aligned to UN SDG goal 3. Managing 12 projects across India in 8 States, in urban slums and rural areas. In the area of Preventive healthcare focussed on women and child care, through RMNCH&A cycle, driving initiatives and measuring them to reduce infant mortality through uptake of institutional deliveries, better reproductive health, immunization, sanitation, pre-natal and post- natal care. Managed adolescent care through workshops, capacity building of Asha workers and child protection programs. In curative care, worked to start 4 Mobile health units for underserved communities, in rural and urban areas across India, in partnership with various NGO’s.
Drove award winning CSR campaigns through media, advocacy, KOL partnerships and grassroots activation to prevent breast cancer, raise sleep awareness and respiratory infections and nutrition uptake of breast feeding.
Aligning CSR to business and Public Affairs-Presently, work closely with government, policy makers and NGO’s to bring about policy changes in adoption of milk banks through “Comprehensive Lactation Management Centres” at government hospitals. This is to build a case for Philips Avent assisted breast feeding devices. An initiative towards aligning business with CSR for creation of shared value, executed through uptake breast feeding along with Asha workers, government and private hospitals.
Education: Adopted and worked with government schools for WASH initiatives and science education, from concept to execution. Conceptualized “Simple Healthy@schools”, a basic health and sanitation program for school children and conducted it across urban and rural schools.
Philips Paatshala – is a Philips award winning government school adoption program, which is a holistic, conceptualised before the CSR mandate came into focus, which looked at education in these schools in a holistic manner, by tying up with various corporates for infrastructure, mid -day meals, teacher training and employee volunteerism for tuition and training. Kalkere Government Schools in Karnataka is one such example of school adoption. Looking at the lack of interest and understanding of science in government schools, helped design a science program with IT and R&D experts at Philips Innovation Campus, which had walk- through, lab visits, anatomy models to inspire students towards pure science.
