Professional Experience: |
Shakti Saran has over 33 years of experience in the banking and financial services industry and in business strategy, management consultancy, business development, program management and information technology. Shakti retired from IBM end August 2017. Going forward, and post-IBM, he wishes to focus on the development sector; engage with social enterprises; promote the social sector ecosystem; establish linkages between corporations and social responsibility and work with impact investors. His areas of interest include social innovation, financial inclusion, education, healthcare, rural development, sustainability and environment protection.
At IBM, Shakti spent 15 years in various roles his most recent being Associate Director, Business Development. His other roles included key positions in Corporate Strategy, Business Consulting and Project Delivery. In 2017, he was one among a select group of IBMers chosen to volunteer for a Corporate Responsibility assignment in Morocco with IBM’s Corporate Service Corps (CSC).
In his Corporate Strategy role, between 2009 and 2012, Shakti led the Financial Inclusion strategy for IBM India. He worked with the Inclusive Banking ecosystem ranging from small MFIs to large banks, MNOs and thematic venture capital providers. He supported IBM teams from Sri Lanka and Peru in financial inclusion opportunities and has spoken at various industry and MFI forums. During his Corporate Strategy stint he also worked in areas adjacent to financial inclusion such as mobile commerce; rural development; and solutions for a sustainable, smarter planet. His role covered all business units of IBM and although he was responsible only for India/South Asia, his work often dovetailed into IBM's global business strategy.
Shakti’s previous roles include senior management positions at PricewaterhouseCoopers; ANZ Grindlays Bank and Banque Nationale de Paris (now BNP Paribas). He is an Associate member of the Global Association of Risk Professionals (GARP) and holds an MBA in International Business and Finance from Boston University and a Financial Risk manager (FRM) certification from GARP.
Shakti has traveled extensively in India and abroad on work as well as privately. He is keen to give back to society and volunteers for the Isha Foundation and V Care Foundation. He is an avid speaker and blogger and has spoken at several industry forums and conferences on a variety of topics. His Personal interests include the outdoors & adventure, travel, gardening, the arts, music, yoga and meditation
