Professional Experience:
I firmly believe in the power of knowledge and education as a catalyst in bringing about change in society. In June 2012, year I became a member of the Modern Education Society (MOD), Durg where I taught elementary Math and English to children. During summer break while in my undergraduate program, I also taught English to underprivileged children in Pulgaon village near my hometown. In
Delhi, I worked for an NGO, Church for Transfiguration (CFT), which focused on child-centered community development. This rights-based approach to development supports communities in developing the structures and skills they need to provide a safe and healthy environment within which children are able to realize their full potential. Through my role at CFT, as a counselor I learned the importance of educating parents towards providing an environment to their children that is fit for studying.
Education:
From a young age, I was deeply moved by the disorder and inequality that surrounded me while growing up in India. These observations inspired me to undertake Honors in History at the undergraduate level to further understand the causes and contexts coloring the emergence of current world dynamics. The modules included here were- History of India, History of Europe, History of North America and History of China and Japan.
It was the urge to understand India’s education policy in particular that drove me to take a course in Public Policy at the Takshashila Institution, an independent think tank, alongside my undergraduate degree.During the course of my elective, ‘Economic reasoning and Public Policy’, I learned about the viability of centrally sponsored government schemes like the Right to Education Act (RTE – 2009) and National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (NREGA ,2005).During this course, I wrote several blog posts on diverse policy topics ranging from ‘Do we really want development?’ to ‘Will the Swacha Bharat Abhiyan (Clean India Mission) just become a better-known failure?’
I also completed a certificate course – ‘Trade, Development and Environment’ – in International Relations at London School of Economics (LSE), which provided me the opportunity to gain an understanding of different areas of policy interest such as Climate and Environment. It was at LSE that I got the opportunity to write several assignments about matters pertaining to my interest, such as the merits of free trade and the stance of different governments regarding genetically modified crops.
Later on I went on to do my Masters in Public Policy where my modules included Comparative Public Policy, Strategic Management, Organization and Management of Public Services, Education and Training Policy Programs.
