Brief Information About the Institute
The Central Institute of Psychiatry, Ranchi is a Government of India owned premier mental hospital and academic as well as research institute of India. It is the oldest mental hospital of India, which followed modern medical principles of treating the persons with psychological ailments. In the year 1918, the British Administration established this institute. At present this institute has been operating under the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS), Ministry of Health & Family Welfare, Government of India. This institute is catering the mental health needs of a large part of the country. Since its inception this institute has been performing instrumental role in mental health manpower development by providing academic and clinical training to medical, behavioural & allied disciplines students to become trained mental health professionals, e.g. psychiatrists, clinical psychologists, psychiatric social workers & psychiatric nurses.
Duties & Responsibilities of Present Job: A. Teaching & Academic ? Teaching the MPhil students of the streams like “Psychiatric Social Work” & “Clinical Psychology” & Nursing students who are doing the Diploma in Psychiatric Nursing (D.P.N.) in the various areas of mental health & social sciences. ? Teaching the students of the streams like “Psychiatry” (M.D. & D.P.M.) in the various areas of mental health & social sciences. ? Organizing seminar, case presentations & conferences, journal clubs, book reviews, film shows & reviews, etc. for educating the students of various disciplines of psychological & behavioural sciences about the various facets of their study & academic curriculum. B. Clinical ? Working as the “full-time psychiatric social worker” (in addition to aforesaid academic responsibilities) of the institute (Central Institute of Psychiatry, Kanke, Ranchi). ? Working as expert in Psychotherapy and Counselling suitable for the trained psychiatric social worker to the both in- Patient and O.P.D. of the Institute. ? Supervising the trainee psychiatric social workers, working as expert of psychosocial needs assessment of the psychologically ill individuals coming to seek treatment at the institute, family & comprehensive social network analysis, expert as psychosocial skills assessment & psychosocial rehabilitation of the mentally ill people. ? Functioning as Expert in Multifamily interventions, family therapy, self-help group development & community out-reach programmes for mentally ill people & their caregivers/family members.

Having PhD & M Phil in Social Work, PG Degree in Social Work (MSW).

Having more than 9 years experiences in the oldest mental health institute of the country as Faculty & Clinician (Psychiatric Social Work). Proficient in psychotherapy & counselling (Individual, Group & Family Interventions); Proficient in Clinical Social Work Research, Computer Application in Research (MS-Office, SPSS, STATA & DTP). More than 30 publications in National & International Peer Reviewed Journals. Excellent communication skills (English, Hindi & Bengali).
