I have been actively spearheading a holistic, technology enabled, Livelihoods and Community Development initiative in the Gubbi Taluk. Some salient points of the project are: 1. The vision is to see how we can develop a bottom up, sustainable and replicable model to improve the overall earnings of the community members by a factor of 200% to 300% in a span of 3 years 2. The key approaches being considered are: a. Set up a Community Extension, Management and Technology Centre which will also provide the complete last mile support and handholding, taking responsibility for results and outcomes. b. Set up an Automated Weather Station c. Develop a Drone based low level scanning and processing capability, if permitted d. Develop a strategic plan for each household e. Focus on improving pre harvest productivity by agri-ecological measures i. Provide farmer level weather information and recommended action ii. Provide early protection against pests iii. Effective crop insurance iv. Follow up and ensure action taken by the farmers by incentivized local community volunteers f. Improve value addition through sorting packaging and processing wherever possible g. Bring market access and supply chain linkages to large buyers h. Post harvesting support with best price discovery and hold or sell decision support i. Mapping the implementation to the SHG/FPO model and supporting its implementation j. Providing Govt. schemes awareness and processing support k. Addressing all the other societal. Health, environmental and moral issues l. Other related issues as they are identified. 3. We have already established a very strong relationship with a National level Community based Organization which was actively involved in all the field work in this exercise.
