I have done two major projects during my curriculum.
- First deals with the reduction of the the solid waste (Precipitate of the bleaching plant known as ‘kirri’ and usually discarded as waste.) of the lac industry by utilizing it as the energy resource. Outcomes and Benefits : Fuel derived from waste as ‘Briquette’ gave UHV/GCV equal to E-Grade coal which is more than F-Grade coal which is being used in the industry. Waste can also be used as substrate for methane production as Green fuel.Waste can be used as ‘Refused Derived Fuel (RDF)’ and substitute for coal and fuel wood in industrial and domestic purposes as briquette as well as bio-gas. Implementation: Referring the results of the work, the management has started combusting ‘kirri’(waste of the lac industry) with coal in boiler chamber for higher heat value. It was also published as ‘Waste to Energy Conversion through Briquetting in Lac Industry in India’.(publication)
- Second one deals with the evaluation of the the biomass characterization of selected wastes (Eight different lignocellulosic wastes like discarded paper, bagasse, fruit peel, peanut shell , rice husks, wood dusts etc.) for Bio-ethanol production. Outcomes and Benefits: The selected wastes can be used as substrate for Bio-ethanol production. Increase in solid waste quantity and demand in fuel consumption is the major environmental issue. Bio-ethanol is an emerging Bio-fuel. It can also be blended with gasoline as ‘gasohol’ for high engine efficiency and less emission. It is used as anti-knocking agent & replaced lead.
I have also done dissertation work on "“Role of Media in Environmental Awareness”.
Also participated and presented posters in seminars and conferences.
