Consultant, KPMG Advisory Services Pvt. Ltd Mumbai, India (11/2015 – 10/2017)
(A) Project I: Ease of Doing Business and Regulatory Reforms for the Government of Maharashtra, India
•Recommended and led reforms to streamline the business regulatory processes of government agencies in Mumbai, so as to enhance India’s performance in the World Bank Doing Business Assessment 2018
•Led engagements with key state departments such as the Directorate of Industries, Department of Labor and Department of Sales Tax to restructure and modernize their licensing procedures for businesses, and implement reforms targeted to enhance Maharashtra’s performance in the 2016 State Assessment of Business Reforms conducted by the Government of India
•Designed a framework for implementing risk based inspection for the Department of Labor in Maharashtra, thereby reducing the burden of compliance inspections on low risk industries by 100%
•The project significantly improved India’s rank in the World Bank Assessment, raising it from 131 in 2016 to 100 in 2018
•In the 2016 State Assessment of Business Reforms, Maharashtra’s compliance score increased to 92.86% (from previous year’s 49.40%)
(B)Project II: Industrial Ecosystem Development and Investor Facilitation for the Government of Maharashtra, India
•Assisted in formulating Maharashtra’s industrial development strategy, as a result of which in the first half of FY17, the state received ~ 50% of the overall FDI in India
•Created a framework for evaluating applications for industrial land allotment, based on objective parameters such as proposed utility, employment potential, environmental impact, etc.
•Contributed to investment promotion and facilitation in the state including lead generation, benefit assessment, investor liaisons and resolution of bottlenecks
(C)Other Contributions:
•Co-authored a thought leadership report on Doing Business titled ‘Accelerating Ease of Doing Business to the next orbit: An outlook on Governance Model, Skilling and Infrastructure’ published by KPMG and PHD Chamber of Commerce in India
•Represented the Government of Maharashtra as part of a state delegation to the UK-India Ease of Doing Business conference 2016
