Education:
Two years of rigorous coursework at TISS was holistic and multidimensional to say the least. Sythesizing the knowledge gained form theories and class room teaching with constant exposure to challenges and realities of the field has enhance my competencies to work as a developmental professional for different social groups and causes.
Among various lessons taught TISS, the most valuable learning was that all interventions and social action should be formulated through a Rights based approach and thorough Stakeholder analysis. Through the intensive coursework(theory and fieldwork) and relevant workshops and seminars, we have been exposed to various academicians and social work practitioners and had the opportunity to learn of various perspectives about the field.
The coursework was vast and varied and included:
• Lessons of planning and executing group and individual interventions through Group work and case work
• Assessing and analysising demographics of the country to formulate development plans for children
• Social policy analysis and planning
• Working and learning about different vulnerable groups of children and designing interventions
• Learning about issues and concerns of rural childhood and state and civil society’s contribution to make the situation better for them
• Development Practice, Policies and Programmes for Children and Families

Fieldwork experience:

Chembur Children Home: Direct work with relinquished and run away children. Designed and administered engagement activities to aide their academic learning and social development. Executed principles of case work and group to deal with individual cases or groups of children. In addition organised various seminars and workshops for goal setting and aspiration building.

Technology Resource Communication and Service Centre : Community engagements with rural citizenry in Jharkhand. Undertook Community resource mapping and PRA technique to interact and communicate with the villagers. Documented various reports on : Child marriage, high drop out rate of girls, performance of AWC and primary schools and village and family profiles of 12 dsitricts in Jamshedpur based on primaries collected directly from the villages . Working with TRCSC also gave me an opportunity to work on a UN funded project called India Literacy Project.

Family Service Centre : Extensive community engagements with women and children in a few identified Mumbai slums. Planning and executing learning and recreational activities for children and capacity building activities for the members of the SHG groups formed by the organisation. Parallely, monitoring and documenting foster care reports and conducting pre/post adoption home visits and documenting the same for review by the courts.
