I am a Healthcare leader with P&L responsibility and have more than 20 years of rich experience in managing organizations. I have served in the Indian Army for more than 23 years and have strong experience in Healthcare Industry as also in Operations, SCM & Logistic and People Management in a global setting involving multi-cultural environment. I have been handling the leadership roles for the last more than 10 years involving large resources and people at the organisation level, driving changes and transitions in an ever evolving dynamic environment. I opted for premature retirement in the rank of a Colonel after a brilliant career to broaden my horizon and explore more opportunities in the healthcare sector within India and abroad.
In a major responsibility at the Senior Leadership level, I was handpicked for the transformative role as the Director Healthcare Ex-Servicemen Contributory Health Scheme in Pune in 2008, wherein I managed the challenging assignment of looking after more than 1,60,000 patients spread over the - six large States of UP, MP, Gujarat, Rajasthan, Maharashtra & Goa. As the Director Healthcare, I had 38 polyclinics under me involving asset capitalization of more than Rs 200 Crores. I was responsible for search, selection & staffing, contracting, pay rolling and performance appraisal of more than 750 Doctors, Nursing, Paramedical and Administrative staff.
This assignment involved annual budget of Rs 600 Crores. Financial planning, budgeting, projections and expense control were also part of the responsibility. The responsibility also included budgeting and procurement/SCM of medicines & medical devices. People management of all Regional/ State Operational Heads & personnel involved in the healthcare management (other than the polyclinic staff) was an important part of my charge.
My job also included identifying, carrying out due diligence, short listing, inspecting, negotiating and contracting about 400 large and small hospitals and diagnostics centres spread over the major towns and districts of these states. Ensuring QA & QC and consequently ensuring patient satisfaction, albeit a challenging proposition, were also an integral part of my responsibility. We were consistently rated ‘Outstanding’ in QA/QC & patient satisfaction in our yearly reviews based on stringent inspections and the customer satisfaction surveys carried out by the various Central Govt Medical Teams.
The Healthcare Scheme was expending its operations and I was a key member of the ‘Core Team’, which was constituted to plan strategy and framework for the addition of about 200 new polyclinics at the national level, 22 of them in my area of responsibility. The mandate involved the following key responsibilities:-
• Working out a ‘Detailed Project Report’ and the ‘Policy Framework’ for the expansion of the Healthcare Scheme pan-India.
