Education:
I hold an MPhil. degree from the School of Habitat Studies at Tata Institute of Social Sciences, Mumbai. Prior to this, I completed MA in Economics from Christ College, Bangalore, with a gold medal for attaining the highest rank. I also hold a BA degree in Economics and Political Science from Delhi University. Economics has been the core discipline throughout my university education.
At TISS, I learnt research methodology, and the methods of research from some of the best academicians in the country. I have generated significant understanding and skills at conducting research systematically, both with primary and secondary data. Along with my course, I also took tutorial lectures for the graduate students to teach them certain tools for data analysis. I have attempted to learn and apply both quantitative and qualitative approaches to research.
During MPhil., I also undertook courses in statistics, quantitative tools for research. By working with a team of scientists and engineers at TISS, I gained knowledge of the biophysical aspects of the environment such as nitrogen, carbon, and ecological footprint. I also wrote research papers pertaining to the same subjects. I extensively used MS Excel and SPSS for data analysis for my research in both post graduate degrees and obtained functional knowledge in Geographic Information System (GIS) and optimisation problems. For my current research, I have prepared a model to project future scenarios towards the goal of ‘one earth’ to achieve sustainable development. I used various quantitative methods for data analysis and tools for its presentation suitable to the readers.
While pursuing M.A. Economics, I undertook courses in macroeconomics, microeconomics, public finance which built a sound framework for understanding of the economic problems. Having chosen the specialisation in International Economics, I also learnt about global marketing management techniques and international financial instruments. Additionally, I worked through course on Environmental Economics which involved both theory and practice in the field. With respect to empirical analysis, I completed a rigorous coursework on mathematical economics, advanced statistics and econometrics throughout the degree.
Besides curriculum, I actively participated in writing articles for the college magazines, and was also the editor of a few of them. I have always taken various leadership positions, wherever the opportunity presented itself. I have also been a volunteer with an environmental NGO for the last 5 years and contribute to their research at various levels. I participate actively in the extra-curricular activities.
