Professional Experience:
A Social Development Expert, with over 20 years of experience in the field of Education, Health, Women and Child Development, Livelihoods and Social Welfare. Coordinated and provided time to time consultancy to International Organizations including, DFID, World Bank, ILO, AKF and UNICEF.
- Education and Child welfare:
o As a Senior Consultant for 2 years, with the National Institute of Open Schooling, provided leadership to the world’s largest online in-service teachers training for ensuring compliance to the RTE Act 2009, for quality and trained teachers.
o Served UNICEF Kolkata as Senior Consultant for 6 years for augmenting Quality of Education, where she worked on a School Efficiency Index (SEI) to understand the quality of Schools in Kolkata and Assam, and also conducted annual Large Scale Assessment with SSA West Bengal to determine the learning levels of children in Primary and Elementary grades.
o State Research Coordinator for DPEP (DFID Supported) and SSA for 4 years, and successfully set up 10 district research teams for monitoring and evaluation in West Bengal. Initiated a special program on ‘Deprived Urban Children’ in Kolkata.
- Livelihood and Urban/Rural Local Bodies (ULBs):
o Has been a Team Leader for the Innovative Challenge under the Kolkata Urban Services for the Poor (KUSP), and Lead 108 innovative / challenge fund livelihood projects focusing on ‘Quality of life’ and ‘Income Generation’ among Urban and Semi Urban population across the state of West Bengal, with special focus on the upliftment of women and children in difficult circumstances.
o Conducted an in-depth study on behalf of the P&RD department in West Bengal, for World Bank, and accordingly draft a Grievance and Redress Mechanism for strengthening systems for accountability, transparency and compliance, in Rural West Bengal.
- Health:
o Worked as a Team Leader - Strategic Planning for 4 years, under the Technical Support Unit (TSU) set up by National AIDS Control Organization (NACO). Here she provided technical support for evidence-based planning and strategizing for HIV/AIDS to State Aids Control Society (SACS) in the urban pockets of Punjab, Himachal Pradesh and Chandigarh.
o Conducted awareness programs among migrants of Burrabazar, and counselling sessions with injecting drug users as part of advocacy against HIV/ AIDS (DFID supported).
o Coordinated an International Labour Organisation (ILO) sponsored Project with the Indian Chamber of Commerce (ICC) in West Bengal on ‘De-addiction at workplace - against substance abuse at workplace’.
- Women and Child Development
o As Consultant Program support, Strengthened the partnership between the HIV/AIDS team and the Child Protection team of the Organization, identified specific entry points where Child Protection and HIV/AIDS teams can work closer together for upliftment of destitute women and children.
o Successfully conducted a Study on “Sex Tourism” in the tourist state of Himachal Pradesh, as a part of the National study, supported by the Women and Child welfare Department, GoI, The study brought out the mismanaged tourism industry which lacked proper regulations leading to low quality and undesired tourists, that increase vulnerability to trafficking and sex trade in the tourist states.

- Conducted research on the various systems of medical practices in India, and studied its relevance to the present health context.(1989)
