Responsibilities:
Coordination, advocacy and partnership
1-Strengthen coordination among technical partners at regional level and provincial level in support of Polio Eradication Initiative PEI and Expanded Program of Immunization, EPI including advocacy with WHO, Public Health Department, Education, Rural rehabilitation Department and Provincial and District governors for keeping PEI and EPI priority at all level.
2- Identify effective methods of advocacy with local NGOs and Religious Leaders, Community Elders and other influential persons to ensure their involvement and active participation in social mobilization for the Polio Immunization Campaigns.
3. Bring coordination with program officers of other programs (WASH, Nutrition, Child Protection, Education and Health) in UNICEF as a result formed a polio plus task force committee to carry out activities where awareness not only for the Polio program but also use of Zinc and ORS, vitamin A Supplementation, hygiene and sanitation, diarrhea management and nutrition be raised in the community.
4- Represent UNICEF and participate in Regional Emergency Operation Center (REOC), western region, Afghanistan in weekly meetings.
Social Mobilization and Communication
1- Actively engaged in the recruitment of the Provincial and District Communication Officers of Immunization Communication Network (ICN) for the social mobilization and communication activities in the region. Oversee team management of 28 ICN staffs working at Province and Districts.
2- Support in social mapping of the existing Influencers and their support were taken in PEI.
3- Supervise and strengthen the information flow of social mobilization and communication activities by introducing easy reporting formats. Approving evidence based monthly communication activities plan of each province.
4- Identify significant events observed in the region in a calendar year so that social mobilization activities be organized for raising awareness for Polio eradication and child health related issues.
5-Extend support to country office in development of Information Education and Communication materials and key messages.
6- Engage local media in the region by organizing sensitization programs and workshop with media professionals.
7-IEC materials management, distribution and display in the region before and after the Polio campaigns from regional to district level.
