Position: State Academic Coordinator (Literacy)
Location: SSA Office, Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh

Organisation summary:
Language and Learning Foundation (LLF) is a non-government organisation based out of New Delhi that works towards developing strong foundational skills and abilities of language and literacy among all children and strengthen their ability to think and reason. Founded by the dynamic and passionate, Dr. Dhir Jhingran (Ex-IAS, PhD in Education), LLF believes children’s home languages need to be used formally in the classrooms in the early primary years. Its research and reputation in the early learning space has translated to partnerships with the six state governments and support of other organisations like UNICEF, TATA Trust and Central Square Foundation. LLF presently works with the states of Chhattisgarh, Haryana, Bihar, Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh, Odisha and Gujarat to implement programs for foundational language and literacy. LLF’s “Learning Improvement Program in Haryana” was awarded the “Best Field Based Initiative in South Asia” at CIES 2019.
About the programs:
LLF works on designing and implementing language and literacy programs for state governments while researching and innovating for multi-language and multi-grade learning. The three dimensions of work include continuous professional development of teachers and teacher educators, implementing projects that demonstrate transformed teaching-learning processes for early language learning and engagement with the government system for reform in academic policies and practices. LLF is collaborating with Government of Uttar Pradesh to build capacity of State Academic Resource Group, Academic Resource Persons and Teachers to implement the Foundational Literacy and Numeracy (FLN) program for improving student learning outcomes in Hindi and Math in the state. This is a high priority program.
Position summary:
The State Academic Coordinator (SAC) will report to State Program Manager (SPM) and support him or her in all academic aspects of the program in Uttar Pradesh.
Key responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:
Instructional design and material development:
• Review state language curriculum, textbooks and other materials and prepare reports • Design and develop early language & literacy development framework, training modules and TLM for early grades with consultation of central team • Develop and execute plan for continuous professional development of State Resource Group (SRG) and District Resource Group (DRG), ARPs, Block level teams and teachers on early language learning • Develop workshop designs, facilitation modules, workshop materials, etc. for professional development of teachers on program design and activities • Design assessment tools, classroom observation tools and other required monitoring formats in consultation with central team • Take lead in development of instructional materials for teachers and students
Professional development:
• Develop and execute strategies for capacity building of ARPs to ensure effective onsite support to the teachers • Facilitate ELL sessions in professional development workshops for SRG, DRGs, ARPs, head teachers and teachers • Plan and support professional development courses related activities in the state in consultation with central team • Participate in monthly review meetings of ARPs and DRG members to review the progress of the program activities and outcomes
Other tasks:
• Visit schools to observe the classroom instruction as per the program need • Write reports of academic aspects of the program as per requirement • Document best practices, case studies and success stories from the field to share with donors, central team and governments • Work closely with SCERT, Samagra Shiksha and DIET authorities for their support in material development, workshops, assessments and monitoring • Visit to LLF Delhi office (if required) and field locations for program review, academic workshops and professional development activities • Represent LLF in meetings and workshops invited by government, SCERT, Samagra Shiksha, DIETs and other organizations • Any other work assigned by the supervisor will be also part of the JD
Qualifications, Skills, and Abilities:
• Post-Graduation are equivalent degree required • 5 - 8 years of experience in the related field • Prior experience in projects involving teacher training and material development for Hindi teaching at primary level • Proven experience as an Academic expert • Excellent communication and collaboration skills; strong Hindi language writing skills for training modules, workbooks, manuals, etc. and fluency in Hindi; reasonable knowledge of English • Understanding of language education (early language and literacy) in early grades • Conceptual & experience of working in early grades • Proficient in MS Office (Excel, Access, Word, Power Point, etc.) • An analytical mindset with problem-solving skills • Strong interpersonal skills, with experience in building & managing relationships • Prior work experience in the education/development/fellowships sector strongly preferred

Compensation:
• Remuneration will be competitive with Indian philanthropy pay scales and will depend upon the candidate’s experience levels.
