CERTIFICATE COURSE IN YOUTH WORK, 2015  

Vishwa Yuvak Kendra a pioneering organization in the field of youth development. It was established with the active support of Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru and was inaugurated in 1968 by the then President of India, Dr. Zakir Husain.  It organizes workshops, seminars and training programmes for the youth workers of grass-root level NGOs on different developmental issues.  

To empower youth and to further enhance the effectiveness of youth work, Vishwa Yuvak Kendra has planned to organise the Certificate Course in Youth Work from 17 November to 16 December, 2015  

The whole course consists of 08 different modules. Each module will help the participants to understand about the various social issues affecting the youth of today.  

Further it will also help them to understand the structure and identify the needs of the community, to plan appropriate programmes and implement them effectively.  

It is expected that, after the completion of the course, the knowledge of such skills and techniques will enable the participants to discharge their functions with greater competence.  

In this context, we request you to depute representatives from your organization to participate in the programme. You may kindly note the following:-

  • Each eligible participant would be required to pay Rs. 6,840/- (Rs. 6,000 + Service Tax Rs. 840)  towards registration fee by Demand Draft in favor of Vishwa Yuvak Kendra payable at New Delhi
  • The participants would be provided free lodging and free boarding at our dormitories (separate for male and female) from 16th  November, 2015 evening to 17th December, 2015 afternoon.
  • The programme would commence with registration at 10.00 am on 17 November, 2015.
  • The medium of instruction will be English and Hindi.
  • Travel expenditure will be borne by the participants.
  • The registration fee will neither be refunded nor be adjusted against any other programme.
  • The participants have to make extra payment as per Kendra rules for food and accommodation before 16th November, 2015 evening and after 17th December, 2015 afternoon.  

BACKGROUND NOTE

In our country, so far, youth work had not been considered as something which required professional competence. But with the passage of time it has been realized that youth work is required for holistic development of young people of our nation. Since youth has immense potential to bring changes, therefore there is a need for trained youth workers. Considering the growing requirements indicated by small as well as large youth and social welfare organizations involved in youth work, and also after studying the important role of trained personnel in accelerating the socio-economic and human resource development in our country, the Kendra updates the Certificate Course Programme from time to time.  

The following paragraphs indicate the objectives, syllabus and eligibility criteria etc. of the course   

COURSE OBJECTIVES

  • Providing training in various skills on different aspects of youth work to strengthen youth organizations and youth service agencies to improve their capacity to work with youth.
  • Enabling youth workers to acquire the ability to understand the structure and identify the needs of the community, to plan appropriate programmes and to implement them.
  • Inculcating in them a sense of dedication to work, social awareness and democratic values.
  • Increasing their capacity to understand and explain policies to the young people and to articulate the feelings, sentiments and needs of young people to the Government, NGOs and public in general  

DESIGN OF THE COURSE

The whole course consists of 8 different modules. Each module helps the participants to understand various social issues affecting the youth of today. Further, it also helps to understand the structure and identifies the needs of the community to plan appropriate programme and to implement them. It is expected that after the completion of the course the acquired knowledge of such skills and techniques will enable the participants to discharge their functions with greater competence.  

Module 1:

Indian Society and Youth

This module gives an insight into social cultural, economic and political characteristics of Indian Society. (With special reference to youth work)  

Module 2:

Working with People

This module enables the participants to understand the concepts, principles and techniques of working with individuals, groups and community.  

Module 3:

Organizational Development

The objective of this module is to impart appropriate skills for effective communication. Organizing programmes, resource mobilization and other aspects related to NGO Management.  

Module 4:

Youth and Social Issue

This module gives an insight into various social issue that affect the youth.  

Module 5:

Youth and Health Issues

The objective of this module is to impart knowledge about the various health issues affecting the youth.  

Module 6:

Development of Entrepreneurship

This module enables the participants to understand the concept of entrepreneurship, the skills and qualities needed to become a successful entrepreneur and the various steps in entrepreneurship development.  

Module 7:

Youth Service Agencies and Organization

This module imparts knowledge about various youth programmes being run by Central and State Governments and the latest approaches adopted by youth development organizations.  

Module 8:

Understanding Panchayati Raj 

This module gives an insight into to the concept, levels, duties and role of Panchayats.  

ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA

1.     Age and Experience

Applicants should be in the age group of 20 to 35 years, preferable with two years of experience in related areas such as youth work, social service etc.  

2.     Educational Background

I.        Graduate in case of those who are already employed with Government or voluntary organizations.

II.        Post Graduate in Social Sciences in case of candidates without experience.   

3.     Language

During the course the medium of instruction will be in Hindi and English  

METHODOLOGY

Besides the usual methods like lecture, lecture-cum-discussion, group discussion, case study and talks by eminent persons, it is proposed to make use of the following methods:  

Panel discussion by the participants, assignments and submission of papers on assignments, discussions of these papers with their respective resource persons, observational visits to youth organizations followed by discussions, decision making games, preparing publicity material, reporting and writing minutes, conducting model meetings, role play, organizing seminar, conducting camps, using audio-visual aids etc.  

TRAVEL

All travel expenses including field placement will be borne by the participants.
